Marcus Samuelsson is an Ethiopian-born Swedish-American celebrity chef, restaurateur and television personality. He is the head chef of Red Rooster in Harlem, New York.
To celebrate the launch of this 32-piece capsule, I brought the West Elm Team to Smögen, the island where I grew up in Sweden’s Gothenburg archipelago. For the collection, I gathered inspiration from all of the places I’ve called home, honoring my Ethiopian heritage, Swedish upbringing, and New York City home base.
Ranging from furniture and lighting to textiles and art, the pieces recall Ethiopian craft traditions, Scandinavian design principles and the rich culture of Harlem NYC.
